Celebrate Ostara!

March 21, 2025

Host a Potting Party

Ostara celebrates new life and with that, the start of the growing season. It's time to get those seeds germinating so grab some seeds, dirt, pots, gloves and invite some friends to join you.

Make the day extra special with a high tea or a potluck luncheon.

Bake Hot Cross Buns

In honour of the Germanic Goddess of fertility and Spring, the ancient Pagans made hot cross buns to symbolize new beginnings. Make these buns for your planting party or just for funsies!

Here's a great recipe from The Pioneer Woman.

Decorate Eggs

Eggs are a universal symbol or fertility and new life so it makes sense they are a significant symbol of this Sabbat. Decorating eggs has been part of almost every culture and since the earliest times of man! This activity can be as simple as dipping hard boiled eggs in food coloring or going wild and learning Pysanky - the beautifully detailed egg art from the Ukraine.

There are tons of video tutorials on YouTube on how it's traditionally done but here's a simplified version that doesn't require any special tools.

Ostara Rituals

Ostara is on the Spring Equinox so rituals at this time are all about balance. Consider meditating on work/life balance, personal time/time with friends, those kinds of things. Decorate your home with suns and moons, yin and yang, black and white to invoke balance into your space.

This can go for your altar as well - utilizing symbols of balance but don't forget we're in the season of new life! Place eggs, bunnies, bright Spring colors on your altar and celebrate the return of the sun!

If you are trying to bring your own new life into the world, now it the time for fertility rituals. Add moonstones and lavender to your altar or by your bedside for some extra magic!
